Survivors of Sexual Assault Got the Support of CNMI
April is becoming Sexual Assault Awareness Month to make the U.S. sexual assault free. SART manager for the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, “Savanna Lyn Delos Santos,” shared, “It is a privilege and an honor to have you join us for the 2024 Sexual Assault Awareness Month Proclamation Singing Ceremony. Welcome to the movement.”
Governor Palacios and Lt. Gov. Apatang declared this month Sexual Assault Awareness in Proclamation Singing Ceremony, which is organized by NMCADSV.
Office of the Attorney General Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds said that they stand with survivors during his inspiration address.
“According to the data, 5% of sexual assault allegations are made up, but if we include child cases, then it’s even less. I guess I’m biased, but let me ask you who we didn’t believe who said that to their parents, teachers, and counselors and told the same thing to the police or told their story to the DYS and told their story to the prosecutor, and after that, they told the same thing in court in front of everyone, but we do not believe in them. This is the thing that we had to change, and I hope it will be changed, said Chester Hindus, Chief Prosecutor at the office of the Attorney General.
The coalition will organize many different events in April to raise awareness about the issue and build community.
“Let’s work together to seek justice, find closure, and most importantly, find peace in life,” said Sgt. Frederick L. Sato, PIO and Crimestoppers Coordinator at the Department of Public Safety.
