Google shutting down Gmail in 2024?
Well, rumours of google shutting down Gmail has been swirling around the internet a lot in the past which has ignite concern among millions of Gmail users in the entire world. We believe if you are reading this article, you are here for the same.
This year a fast-spreading hoax news shows an email from Google saying that “the journey of Gmail is coming to a close.” Let’s put an end first to this news by stating that, Gmail isn’t going anywhere however this particular way of accessing Gmail is going to be pulled down. Most of the population must be used by now defaulted to the “new” Gmail view, so unless and until you have specifically requested the “basic HTML” view, nothing will change for you.
One can say it’s just Another day, another Google product is going to the graveyard. The company “Google” is shutting down the Gmail’s basic HTML view, which allows users to simply be on the new version of Gmail from January 2024 which as we have mentioned above as well, “By now most population must be used to it”. The company updated its support page that Gmail will automatically from January 2024 switch to the Standard view after the due date.
The Gmail Basic version i.e. HTML views are previous versions of Gmail that were replaced by their modern successors 10+ years ago and doesn’t include full Gmail feature functionality,” the email reads.
As of today, when you try to access the HTML version of Gmail, Google simply shows a message saying that the version is designed for “slower connections and legacy browsers” and asks you to confirm that you don’t want to use the standard version.
Talking about the HTML version of Gmail, It lacks a lot of features such as chat, spell checker, search filters, keyboard shortcuts, and many more. But it is useful in situations where you are in a low-connectivity area or want to just look at emails without any extra bells and whistles. It’s not clear if Google plans to add a mode for low connectivity.
Google is right now simply focusing on AI-powered packed features into their products, which includes Gmail last month. including Gmail. Last month, the company launched a Duet AI feature to help users write emails. Last week, it allowed the Bard chatbot to integrate with Google accounts so you can ask questions about email history.
Moreover, we would agree with that Gmail has envolved beyond just an email service. It integrates easily with other application of google workplace. It talks about including Google Drive, Calendar and meet. These integration will enhance the productivity state for both individuals and businesses which will solidify Gmail’s position as a corner stone of Google’s productivity suite.
As we wait for the official clarification from Google’s officials, users can rest assured that Gmail is not going anywhere is more likely to stay for quite a long time.
